Mary Jane has taken a job as a reporter at the Daily Bugle, where she encounters mysterious villains and, with the help of friends, overcomes them. Landscapes, views, and character models continue to be breathtaking. Lighting, shadows, and reflections have been revamped to give the game a visual polish. The number of people and vehicle traffic on the streets has increased due to a slight reduction in detail, which is unnoticeable in dynamics.
Overall, the game is a phenomenal experience, and its 32 missions are all rich and full of content. This section leads to one of the most brutal moments of the game, as Venom kills Kraven the Hunter by eating his head. Following this encounter, Peter is tasked to find where Harry ran off before Venom takes over the city with his Symbiote. A few missions later, Peter, with his symbiote suit, helps Miles Morales track down the Lizard, but the younger Spider-Man realizes that his friend is not quite himself.
It’s mashed together with an uncharacteristically large-scale invasion of New York by Kraven the Hunter (seeking worthy super-powered prey) and a tangle of other subplots and returning villains. The plot points are outlandish, the themes muddy, and Miles doesn’t really have enough to do. None of that’s necessarily a dealbreaker, though—the real problem is the characters.
